Dears:

Now that Dad is feeling better I can tell you that he has been pretty sick. The doctor wanted him to go to the hospital but Dad wouldn't do it. He almost had pneumonia and also had those awful hiccoughs again too for almost a week. Last night was the first night he slept through all night without them and he hasn't had them so far today. Yesterday was the first day he didn't have a temperature and he hasn't any today either.

Mr. Kelly--Leo, the man next door, has taken dad to the doctor every day since last Monday + today was the first day he didn't have to and Leo will take him again tomorrow. He gets a shot every time he goes there and at one time he had five different kinds of pills + medicine that he had to take. He had the hiccoughs so bad you would think he had about four or five convulsions in his stomach at one time. He also had a very rapid heart and it was very irregular too so now he is taking digitalis and I am happy to say he looks much much better now and feels better too. Thinks maybe he will be able to drive the car again himself in a few days.

He caught a very bad cold one day when he was outside pulling weeds without a sweater or a jacket on after 4 o'clock. It was real warm during the day and I imagine he perspired some and then when it got cool he should have quit and come home but not dad--he wanted to have a big box of weeds to go out that night as it was pickup day the next day and so he stayed out and the result was he almost had pneumonia. I hope it taught him a lesson although he keeps saying now that he knows he would feel fine if only he could go out and pull weeds.

The weather is beautiful, warm + sunshiney and everything outdoors is commencing to look great. Our peach trees are commencing to sprout out with buds all over, our fig tree is getting full of leaves, our blackberry vines are starting to come to life along with our grape vines too, even our little orange tree has blossoms on it already and our rose bushes and other flowers are starting to bud out too. We still have a few great big poinsettias in bloom, along with some beautiful red camellias and of course our calif. weeds (geraniums) bloom all year around. Sure wish you could spend your winters out here because I'm sure you would love our weather here.

It was so wonderful being able to talk to you honey that I keep thinking about it for a week afterwards with a real happy feeling. I am so happy to think that your winter will soon be over because I'm always worrying about colds, ice + snow that you have to put up with in Chgo.

Francis was here with D**, J**, M** and it was really a big treat to have them here. M** is really a little doll and I wish we could have kept her here. I couldn't get over how D** has gown. I think he is even taller than I am + J** brought out some of her papers from school and she is really a very smart girl. I think they enjoyed being here too because even M** was out playing with J** + D** without even a coat or sweater on.

How are you all--did the kiddies survive the winter without real bad colds? I know how hard it is to keep them indoors even in the winter time when it's freezing and I suppose you had a hard time keeping P** in especially when you let B** + J** out. How are they making out, hasn't J** gotten into any mischief of late?

How I wish I could have them out here for a while, what a treat it would be for us and I hope for the kiddies too. We have a very nice new playground and park real close to our house with merry go rounds, swings, baseball diamonds, fishing ponds, swimming pools and all sorts of other amusements for the kiddies too. D** and J** were over there then they were here.

Well darlings it's almost time for me to start getting supper as we have to eat at 5:15 Larry has to be in school by six so I think I had better say toodle oo for this time and remain as ever

With Gods Blessing on you all

Lovingly

Mom

Will write a letter with P**'s birthday card and let you know how dad is getting along although I know he has improved wonderfully in the last 2 days.  Give my little kiddies a great big hug and kiss from grandma + tell them I'll be expecting them to come out and see us on that great big plane some day soon too.

Love Mom

Remember me to Les' mother + dad too. Tell Les Larry wants to know how his golf game is coming along.
