[home]       [Merten]       [Utschig]       [surname index]

All the information on this page is from a chart sent via email by the very helpful and generous  Mary Utschig Read. She labeled it, "Information gathered from several people who are related to these families: Alice Erdmann, Raymond and DeAnn Meysing, David Jann, CA, David M. Jann, Marion Melsheimer Czachor, John H. Traut, and personal research. I hope I have not left anyone out--everyone has been very helpful and happy to share with one another. This chart has been put together by Mary Utschig Read. It is not complete, but the best that could be done with the information had by January 2007. Any corrections and/or additions are welcomed and hoped for so that the family's histories can become more complete and accurate. THANK YOU again for everyone's help in gathering the information so far collected."

Additional information taken with permission from the website Voell.com, which has genealogical information galore, wonderful photographs including shots of Paul, Emma and Leona Voell, and current news about the extended Voell family.

5-28-1977 letter from Leona T. Voell (taken from the Voell Family Reunion booklet written by Donna Voell Bieser and John Fleischman, as posted on Voell.com, with permission): A Mrs. Bittner told us a bit of family history. She said the large altar in the center of the cemetery (at Mt. Calvary) was made possible by the sale of chances on pieced quilts made by the wife of Grandmother Eva's brother a number of years ago. Now she and her husband sleep nearby, if it is still there. My father said that the greatest pleasure of his declining years was the contribution that he and I (Leona) gave to the building of our new church, St. Augustines, on Spokane's South Hill." (Note: Mrs. Bittner is likely Emma Voell's sister, Julia.)
