1964 Apr 3 Irene by Irene Pfleger Wachdorf, "I don't really feel too good yet. About all I really do is what has to be done like washing--ironing--keeping the house clean and straightened up and getting the meals, making the beds etc," Ed jsut does jigsaw puzzles, not even over to Ruth's for Easter, Ruth & Janet "tried out the new Teflon frying pan and think it is about the most amazing frying pan they had ever used. Nothing burns in it and you don't even have to put grease in it to fry anything," Larry organized a golf tournament, apology for being sick when Les in town

 

1964 Apr 17 Irene by Irene Pfleger Wachdorf, "I just can't sit down and write my heart isn't in writing and I feel so depressed most of the time that I just couldn't write a decent letter," husband's back almost okay, Larry working/golfing/bowling hard, Ruth & Leo Kelly helping out, still have Hilda's birthday card to send out

1964 Apr 30 Irene by Irene Pfleger Wachdorf to her cousin Hilda Grimm Diver Forney, glad to hear Emmet's legs are improving, "I feel so depressed sometimes...the older I'm getting the worse I feel about being so far away from everyone...Since Ed hurt his back he hasn't been able to do a thing...Larry asks to take us to the show or ball games and has taken us to see the ice capades several times--but you just can't drag Ed out. He just won't go anywhere." Praying to get through housework which is getting overwhelming, neighbors trying to help but doesn't want to be indebted, Larry busy with work & tournaments, "If it weren't for you and Harry + Justina--oh yes Dolores does pretty good too in writing--I think I would just sit here and brood my life away in loneliness...I hope I will soon be able to snap out of this morbid mood that I have been in for a long time..."

1964 Oct Irene by Irene Pfleger Wachdorf on the birth of another grandchild, "told Mary I knew it was going to be born because I couldn't get you off my mind...Wish I could have been there to lend a helping hand but as it was I wouldn't have been able to do anything anyway because I was on the bum myself. After all the dope the neighbors brought in I'm feeling pretty good today."

1964 Nov 27 Irene by Irene Pfleger Wachdorf, over to Ruth & Leo's for Thanksgiving with turkey Larry won bowling, Ed didn't go maybe because they always invite Marsha & Les and "he's always taking his teeth out and it embarrasses him," Larry likes to sing at their piano, "he enjoys himself and everyone else enjoys seeing him so happy even if they would like to stuff their ears with cotton," someone has new son Michael Kevin whom Larry bounces as if "riding on a pogo stick," soon they'll be yelling for dinner "you know we can eat meat today and I suppose you in Chgo can too. I have never taken advantage of eating meat on Friday no time and I don't want to start now...Larry wants to know if the kiddies have gone ice fishing yet and good luck to Les in his hunting."

1964 Dec 10 Irene by Irene Pfleger Wachdorf, resting from house work and starting on Xmas greetings, "We are all pretty good although dad has a slight cold and I'm just plain getting old," how is new baby, do daughters like him, glad to hear Les got a deer and "how did you enjoy your deer meat--to me it tasted like roast beef if you remember when dad brought some home from Wisc."
