1-27-1874 Dyer County marriages: Salie J. Hardison to J.W. Clark. By the ages of his children in the 1880 census, it is not his first marriage. Believe after Sallie he marries her sister, Sophia Elizabeth "Lizzie" Hardison. In the 1910 census where the census taker would mark S for single, W for widower of M for married, M3 has been entered for JW, indicating it is his third marriage. M1 is entered for Lizzie.

8-19-1875 date on tombstone at Mount Moriah for Albert A. Clark, son of SJ & JW Clark, age 9 mo 8 days, which puts his birth at 11-11-1874.

1880 census, Dyer County District 2.

Son William Clark, age 8.

Son David Clark, age 12.

Son Daniel Clark, age 10

1891 Dyer County Census showed the household of JW Clark, age 50, as #80. Sallie's sister, Louisa Robertson, and husband William Noah Robertson show up as household #71, with her father Asa as household #72, her brother JH (either Jesse Hyman or James Henry) as #73, brother GW as household #74, and brother Alonzo Edwin as #75. Household #78 was Daniel Clark and #79 was DC Clark. Not sure of relationship.

9-1-1892 The Hardison family Bible records the marriage of Sally's brother GW was "in the presence of J.W. Clark, W.H. Phillips, Frank Shelton and others in the county of Dyer, State of TN."

4-16-1893 death of Sallie J. Clark, buried at Mount Moriah.

10-22-1893 Dyer County marriage records show JW Clark marrying Lizzie Hardison. Believe this is Sally's sister, Sophia Elizabeth. Need to double check against notes from Mary Lou and Hardison Bible transcription by Mary Lou. Note that in the 1900 census his wife "Lizzie" is listed as born Jan. 1848 of parents born in NC, which matches Sophia Elizabeth.

(The tombstone for WH Clark in Zion Hill Cemetery gives wife as Minnie C. Clark 1882-1941. The person who transcribed the cemetery records, perhaps Natalie Huntley, added that FHR show William Henry Clark 5-26-1873 to 12-2-1946, son of James William Clark and husband of Minnie Chrisman).

8-17-1950 Crockett County Sentinel: Services for Dave C. Clark were held Tuesday (paper published on Thursday) at Zion Hill Baptist Church, burial in church cemetery. Tombstone at Zion Hill Cemetery shows David C. Clark 1867-1950 and Missouri E. Clark 1871-?.

Social Security Death Index says Alvis Clark (son of Dave and Missouri) born 8-8-1895, died Feb. 1963.

JW CLARK BEFORE SALLY & LIZZIE

A family tree posted to the internet puts that JW Clark was the son of Charles P Clark (wife unknown), and that Charles P Clark was himself the son of Henderson Clark and Elizabeth Pate. But then it lists Elizabeth Pate's info going backward, so something is screwy there. Besides, census data seems to show James as son of Calvin Clark, not Charles.
