*Regarding spouse Elizabeth Lanier--there is a Lanier family tree posted on Rootsweb with no source listed (http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~digginforroots/lanier/lanierwilliam.htm)

This family tree shows Elizabeth Lanier as the wife of Drury Vinson Avery, and her sister is the Sally Lanier who is the wife of Drury's brother, James A. Avery. Another Lanier sister, Amelia (born 1814) married James T. Aspray.

1830 Sheriff's list of free inhabitants of Gibson Co. TN included Drury Avery, his father Alexander, and brother BGHB & John.

NOTE: By Sherri Sontag's information, Rose Ann Avery Boswell (household 32) was d/o James A. Avery and married 3-28-1865 in Gibson County to Charles Alonso Boswell. They divorced after having children Walter N, Charles Edgar, James Thomas, Nicademous D (Nick), and Margaret. Rose later remarried to Rufus K. Boone on 4-13-1888 in Crockett County. A family tree online belonging to Ann (Jobe) Brown, great-great-granddaughter of Kinchin Augustus Boon, shows Rufus Boon's first wife as Elizabeth Isabella Avery, of unknown parents. Crockett County marriage records show "Isabella (Bell) Avery" marrying R.K. Boon 8-20-1874. Ann (Jobe) Brown gives Isabella's birth and death dates based on a tombstone in the Providence Cemetery, Crockett County (4-30-1853 to 10-29-1883 Isabella Boon w/o R.K. Boon). 1853 being a match for Drury's daughter, and the proximity to Drury's other daughters in the 1880 census strongly suggests that the Isabella who was first wife of R.K. Boon is also the daughter of Drury Vinson Avery. Ann (Jobe) Brown has an impressive website and the page regarding Rufus K Boon is http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ajobebrown/boon/wm/sion.html

Gibson County marriage records show a Mattie Avery marrying Henry Jarrett in 1870. Not sure if she's this Mattie Avery.

Crockett County marriage records include the following (not sure if they're this family or not):

-Cornelia Avery to J.T. Smith 4-10-1873

-Isabella (Bell) Avery to R.K. Boon 8-20-1874

-Malissa "Averry" to James H. Riddick 1-4-1875

-Demetra Avery (Miss) to W.F. Cormack 12-24-1879

-Bettie Avery to G.L. Stallions 1-29-1882 (license) NOTE: coming at this from the Stallings directions, James Lawrence "Bud" Stallings was married to a Betty Avery. Presume the Gibson marriage and Drury's daughter and Bud Stallings's wife are all the same Betty Avery, especially because there is a photo posted to Rootsweb by Natalie Huntley of the Stallings family that includes, "Sidney Avery (brother of Bettie Avery, the first wife of James Lawrence 'Bud' Stallings)"

-RTS Avery (perhaps Sidney, if like his uncle his real name is Reuben T) to Mattie Layman 2-20-1887

Regarding Bettie Avery to G.L. Stallions--the descendents of "Bud" Stallings aka G. Stallions, have posted that his wife, Bettie Avery, was born in Oct. 1861, which matches Drury Vinson's Bettie.

Regarding Malissa Avery to James H. Riddick--in the 1880 census they are in Crockett Mills, on the same page of the census with Drury's brother James. If it is the right Malissa, she and her husband are both 33, and they have a son, Henry, born in Aug 1880.
