from his aunt Irene Wachdorf to her daughter 10-13-1932: "Christine and Genevieve were here for lunch today and can you imagine just as we were sitting down to eat who should drop in but Edward Pfleger and Edward Wachdorf Jr. (Oh yes, I forgot to tell you, Edward is working with Edward Pfleger again for a while)... of course you know Edward knew the girls would be here and Uncle Oscar is away for a few days with the boss so it was fine coming home for dinner. Well we all had a fine time..." (this is the only mention of him, but to read full letter, click here: 10-13-1932 Irene)

Pfleger, ate 82, at Long Beach, IN, beloved husband for 60 years of Agnes V., nee Burke, loving father of *** and ***; dear "Papa" of ***, ***, ***, and ***; fond brother of Louis (the late Marion), Eleanor (Robert) Wilson and the late Herbert, John and Henry (Margaret) Pfleger; brother-in-law of Elizabeth (George) Devine, Edward (Lauretta) and the late William (the late Helen) Burke. Mass 2929 W. 87th St. to Christ the King Church, interment St. Mary's. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Notre Dame Church, Long Beach, IN.

2006 obituary for Agnes (died 11-1-2006) from the Chicago Tribune, 11-3-2006: Agnes V. Pfleger, nee Burke, age 89, beloved wife of the late Edward J. Pfleger, St.; loving mother of ***, and ***; devoted grandma of ***, ***, *** and ***; devoted sister of Elizabeth (the late George) Devine and Edward R. (Lauretta) Burke; fond aunt of many nieces and nephews. Family and friends will meet at Christ the King Church, 9235 S. Hamilton Ave. on Saturday morning for visitation 9:30 to 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Interment St. Mary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Catholic Charities Maternity/Adoption Services, 651 W. Lake St., Chicago IL 60661 appreciated.

1910 census, Chicago, Princeton ave.: William Burke, age 36, born in Ireland, immigrated 1900, occupation: trucker in freight house, married two years to Mary Burke, age 26, born in Ireland, immigrated 1904. Daughter Mary, one year and one month, born in Illinois. Also in the household: Michael McMahon, brother-in-law,24, born in Ireland, immigrated 1905, occupation: shipping clerk. John McMahon, brother-in-law, 20, immigrated 1908, freight handler in freight house. Teresa McMahon, sister-in-law, 15, born in Ireland, immigrated 1908, occupation: addresses envelopes.

1920 census, Chicago, Wentworth Ave: William Burke has only aged 4 years in the decade, and puts his age as 40. His immigration from Ireland has shifted backwards to 1898, naturalized 1903. Occupation: freight handler for railroad (LS or DS RR?). Wife Mary, 25, immigrated from Ireland 1904. Daughter Mary, 10; daughter Elizabeth, 9; son William, 6; daughter Agnes, 2 years 4 months; son Edward, 6 months (all born in Illinois). Also in the house, Michael McMahon, brother, age 33, immigrated from Ireland 1905, naturalized 1919, occupation: checker for dry goods store. Also in the house, Mike Kaplan, roomer, parents from Sweden, works in restaurant, 37.
