Son Bolin Green (BG) Pate was in the Civil War. Full account from his pension application papers on his page (many thanks to Alice Peterie for sending the copy). BG Pate married in 1866 in Gibson County to Mary A Williams.

James M. Pate is buried in the Avery Cemetery in Crockett County. His birth date is given as 2-14-1819 but the stone is broken so that the death date is illegible. For some reason some internet sources list his death date as 1-29-1906 but I believe this is incorrect. Because Margaret appears to be listed as the head of the household in the 1870 census, in the 1871 tax list and seems to be the sole parent with son James in 1880, either James M. Pate died before 1870, or he stopped living with her for some reason favorable enough to still earn him a place in her family's graveyard.

2-10-1871 date of signature on will of her father, BGHB Avery, Gibson, TN Will Book G, page 202. To wife Charity: half of stock, so Jonas and Katy may make a living, house and land on which she lives, beginning line of James F. Avery's 40 acre tract, so as to include the graveyard, and over to the corner of the gin field, including the field to the lane. To son W.A.G. Avery: the rest of the tract to live on. To son James F. Avery: 50 acres. Daughter Martha has had $400 worth of land in Arkansas; must make account to estate before she shares. Grandson B.G. Email July 2007 from Jinks Pate-Lee said, in part, "I visited with some of John York Pate's descendents in TN several years ago and they had a framed picture of the Pate family tree hanging on the wall--I copied everything I could from it. There is a Bible record, but don't know who has the Bible--it belonged to Ella Izora Pate Wright--shows birth and death of Bolen Green Pate--he is buried in the Pate Cemetery in Dyer County. Alice Peterie is the one who sent me the Bible records--Ella Izora (Pate) Wright was dau of Bolin Green Pate, and she was b. 26 Jan 1877, married Louis Calvin Wright on 23 Dec 1894. Bolen G also served in the Civil War and applied for a pension in 1910...Bolin Green Pate born 17 Oct 1843, Amanda born Nov. 1848, John C (b.1852), Mary E. (Nichols--1853), Sarah F (Quinley -1855), James F born 4 Apr 1865. I show John York Pate d. 21 June 1961 -- and his marriage is recorded in Crockett Co, TN. I really don't think the marriage to Marina Early is his... Bolen G's pension record shows: served in Capt McMurray's Co; 22 TN; Co K; Cons 12 TN; CSA, Civil War Jan 1910 Pension Appl #11734, Dyer Co TN; BG Pate born Dyer Co on 17 Oct 1843; wife died in 1884; had 2 girls and 2 boys."
